The Directors of RJMS

Roderick Cumming is both a Certified Practising Accountant and also a Member of the Chartered Management Institute.

Rod Cumming

After taking Business Studies at what is now Sheffield Hallam University, Rod trained for more than six years with one of the UK’s largest professional firms of accountants and management consultants, leaving them in the Spring of 1979. In July of that year he registered RJ Management Services as his business name; Rod has been running RJMS as Accountants and Business Advisers since that time.

In June 2003 the business was bought by RJMS Business Services Ltd, a family company run by Rod as Managing Director with his wife Lizzie as his Co-Director. In April 2013, as two-thirds of the fee-income was from clients in the health sector, to allow greater focus on that area, the Company was split into two distinct divisions, both with their own areas of expertise : RJMS Professionals & RJMS Health Care Accountants.

Elizabeth Cumming

Elizabeth Cumming has worked as a nurse for the NHS since she started at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford when she was 17. She gained her Orthopaedic Nursing Certificate at the age of 19 and returned to Sheffield to obtain her SRN (now re-named as an ‘RGN’ Registered General Nurse). She then developed an interest in eyes and gained her Ophthalmic Nursing Diploma.

Elizabeth became a Senior Ward Sister of the 28 Bed Ophthalmic Ward in ‘Pre Day-Case Centre’ days. The NHS Trust Hospital where she was Senior Ward Sister, had earned a high reputation as one of the major UK NHS Eye Centres with 21 Ophthalmic Consultants each with their specialist areas of expertise. Since then, Lizzie has continued nursing (part-time) which was as much time as being a mother and home-maker to three sons would allow!

As a leading Cataract Assessment Nurse in the ‘A’ Team (the cataract assessment team), she enjoyed meeting patients and guiding them through what can be a worrying period as their cataracts are treated. She enjoyed explaining the procedures to patients to calm their fears and reassure them. Her years of experience allowed her to carry out post op. assessments with confidence, informing the appropriate ophthalmic consultant when an outcome required their input. She retired from her NHS post in June 2014.

After 41 years with the NHS, Lizzie has a wealth of both management and clinical experience which greatly assists RJMS in understanding the issues and challenges currently faced by hospital consultants, nursing staff and all other health professionals working together to deliver better patient care in the NHS. With Elizabeth as our Health Care Director we are confident that we are now in a strong position, not only to assist clients with the taxation and accounting issues that have to be sorted, but also to understand, empathize with and help solve some of the difficult managerial problems faced each working day by health professionals in this challenging sector.
